Mittwoch, 05.03.2025: Static vacuum 3+1 black holes that cannot be put into stationary rotation
Prof. Dr. Martín Reiris Ithurralde (Universidad de la República - Uruguay)
We will show that some of the static Myers/Korotkin-Nicolai (MKN) vacuum 3+1 static black holes cannot be put into stationary rotation. Namely, they cannot be deformed into axisymmetric stationary vacuum black holes with non-zero angular momentum. We also prove that this occurs in particular for those MKN solutions for which the distance along the axis between the two poles of the horizon is sufficiently small compared to the square root of its area. The MKN solutions, sometimes called periodic Schwarzschild, are physically regular, have no struts or singularities, but are asymptotically Kasner.

Donnerstag, 06.03.2025: The spectral gap of low-lying eigenvalues for a double-well potential in a uniform magnetic field
Lucas Kersten (LMU München)
We consider a Schrödinger Hamiltonian with a spatial and temporal uniform magnetic field in an electric potential with two radially symmetric wells in dimension two. We assume that the electric wells are compactly supported, and they are far apart from each other. We introduce some basic results for the single-well situation using harmonic approximation. Using the Helffer-Sjöstrand strategy, we find an asymptotic formula for the first two eigenvalues. Furthermore, we prove that the difference of the first two eigenvalues is exponentially small in the limit h 0, also called the semiclassical limit.
