Conserved (or not so Conserved) Quantities in General Relativity
Saradha Senthil-velu
Understanding the conservation laws in General Relativity provides profound insights into the intricate nature of spacetime and the dynamic behaviour of physical quantities. This presentation will specifically address fundamental aspects such as mass, angular momentum, and center of mass, with a particular focus on the asymptotically flat setting. Commencing with an exploration of the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) quantities derived from the Hamiltonian perspective, we will scrutinize the limitations of these definitions as conserved quantities. Subsequently, we will briefly examine alternative definitions that offer potential improvements for these fundamental quantities.
